Membership Fees 2015
Annual membership is just £16, which includes liability insurance when flying at official club events. We send out a regular flysheet by email to members included within this price - if you would prefer a printed version posted to you, please add £4 to the membership fee to cover postage & colour printing.
There are lots of perks to being a member, including getting to fly the club kites, invitations to various kite festivals in the UK and abroad, and picking the brains of some of our most experienced flyers! Plus of course lots of opportunities to fly kites and enjoy social time with like minded, friendly kite flyers. Members also receive discounts at various local kite shops, please enquire for details :)
Our outdoor meetings are known as "Fly-ins" and are held on the first Sunday of each month throughout the year. Except in October the fly in is held on the second Sunday to coincide with One Sky One World (www.oneskyoneworld.org) and sometimes at a different venue which will be put in the fly sheet. When AKF are officially invited as a club to fly at festivals e.g. Weymouth the fly-in then transfers to the festival location.
We meet at Ashton Court usually from about lunchtime. The gate on Longwood Lane (See map) is especially opened to allow vehicular access to the flying area, which is the same as that used for the Kite Festival.
A Committee member places a combination lock on the gate so check the combination on your A5 laminated sheet. If you intend arriving early it would be wise to contact a committee member to see what time the gate will be opened.
A complication arises if the fly-in clashes with a Kite Festival (see your Flysheet). This happens regularly throughout the summer months but usually a hard core of AKF members will still be found at Ashton Court
Sometimes the venue changes in the Summer when the grass has not been cut but full details will be in your Flysheet
Master classes are held at some of the monthly Fly-Ins on how to fly the club kites. All members are welcome to come along and join in.
Club evenings are an easy-going social get together, usually held on those dark winter evenings. We are currently looking for a new venue but hope to re-instate these in 2015.
They are usually held on the 2nd Monday of the Month, from 8pm onwards. Dates are published in the Flysheet.
The summer tour is a mid-week fly-in held at the Windmill Public House, Portishead, or Durdham Downs in Bristol on the 3rd Wednesday or Thursday of the month from about 6.30pm Check the Flysheet or Facebook page for details.
Additional events are usually added during the year. Dates for these are published in the Flysheet.
